NO SUCH THING AS “AI’
Phillip E. Collins
As we move more and more into the high-tech age, we are
hearing much about artificial
intelligence, what it can do, and the legal issues it provokes in the creation
of things human are used to doing such as creating art or music.
One of the greatest gifts of humanity is our intelligence.
Our ability to think and reason. In order to do this, we need to be conscious,
or awake. Machines, computers cannot be conscious. They can compute, process
and analyze data. That is not being conscious
Let humanity not be too fast in giving away one of our most
precious gifts of being conscious by calling a machine intelligent. The legal
and ethical areas of “AI” are yet to be resolved but in the meantime let’s call
it what it is: just plain old computing folks.
